I got a thinker for all you B16 guys
My brother just gave me his 2000 Si and pretty much said. If you can fix it you can have it. Sooooo, he was driving home one day and it started to run on 3 cylinders. Fuel and spark were fine so i did a compression test and the #3 cylinder has absolutly no compression. Like the needle on the gauge didnt even flintch. I pulled the valve cover and manualy cranked the motor from the crank and all the valve springs seemed to be operating properly. My whole problem is that i dont have a long term garage to do work in so im trying to figgure out what i need before i commit to taking the head off. Also, the car drove on 3 cylinders just fine. It sounded like a subie but ideled and ran fine. No clunking or crazy grinding noises. Im thinking maybe a hole in the piston or a valve broke. I origionaly thought it was just the rings but figgure if its rings then there would be at least some compression. Anyone come across this same problem?
it could be a few things honestly.
when you pull the valve cover off and manually rotated the rotating assembly you didnt find any resistance when the said "dead" cylinder was reaching the up position did you?
the rings could be done, but its weird that it has absolutely NO compression. makes me that it is all going back up through the head when you pressurized the cylinder.....
take the valve cover off, and look at the retainers and make sure that none of the valves on that cylinder slipped or a keeper came out and lodged itself a funny way and is keeping the cylinder dead. i have seen that happen once on a gsr integra.

What is involved with a leakdowm test? and there is no way in hell I'm selling this thing. My brother has owned it for over 7 years and it is going to stay in the family for atleast a couple more.
