School isn't the answer necessarily. Does it play a role in today's society? Yes but it isn't everything. The Federal government considers 3 years on a job the same as 4 years in college. I know people with Master's who are working 10-12 per hour and struggling to pay back tuition loans. It's also about luck and making your own fortune however "The good ole boy" system does come in to play. Look at a majority of CEO's, Board Members, VP's, etc. They're part of a "entourage". It's who you know and
They still said I need a degree...
Unfortunately, I'm finding that school IS the answer. I'm in my third month of looking for a job and can't get one because I don't have a degree. I was even turned down at Office Max for a job paying ½ what I was getting paid, doing the EXACT same job, running the exact same machines that I have been running for 20 years. Even the main copiers that they use are the EXACT same machines that I had in my office 10 feet away from me. The salesman that sold us our machine is the same one that sold them their machines and even told them that I could run the machine with my eyes closed.

I'm making about half of what I'm used to making myself. I'm considering trying to get a job waiting tables somewhere on the side, at least until something better comes along. I've got so much background in saturated fields, and I'm having the same problem that you're having. I haven't even been getting return calls, but if I did, they'd take the person with less experience and a degree over me having more skill and experience than the person fresh out of college.
I'm going back to school next semester hopefully to study industrial psychology.
Damn Chad! I feel for you bro... The economy REALLY sucks!

But, when it's all said and done I'll have a fancy piece of paper to show everyone...
Nothing epic... Just got pulled over on 604 after letting into the throttle a little bit... Cop pulled me over and asked me what kind of muffler I had on the car and I told him there wasn't one and he give me the run around bout how every motor vehicle has to have a muffler... And I remembered that he was the guy that got me two years ago for the exhaust on my s10 and tinted tail lights... He ended up not giving me a ticket b/c I have estimates in my glove box from where I thought bout gettin my exhaust fixed...
