I got a thinker for all you B16 guys
ok, so i think im going to build the bottom end and and put on a gsr head. what do you guys think? Anyone know what kind of number i would get if i did ctr pistons with a gsr head?
If there's leakdown...the motor has to come apart. its only use is knowin which part to order in prep for the teardown. lol
Told ya. lol.
trust me...the rings ARE bad.
rings and rod bearings should cost u about $140. The valve is like $20. Thats peanuts to have a fresh motor.
Def agree...have to hone them. The new valve should be lapped in the head using valve griunding compound to get it to seal correctly. Seat should be fine.
Number? do you mean comp. ratio or horsepower? I know a guy who built a GSR bottom end with CTRs and put a heavily shaved GSR head on it. He ended up with like 13-1 comp (pegged a comp. gauge after the first pump! lol). He put down right at 200whp tuned on pump gas. So...I'd guess maybe 180? IDK.
just pulled the head off and there was a hole in one of the exhaust valves. Is there a way i can test the rings on that cylinder to make sure they are ok before reassembly? Im not 100% sure that the rings were going bad to begin with and if i can get away with building the head and putting it back on i would love to.

If you're going to do new rings, you'll need to hone the cylinders.
If the cylinder (with the damaged valve) looks to be in good shape, with no damage from metal shrapnel, you'll probably do just fine with new valve(s) if you're not looking to do a more comprehensive rebuild. Oh, pay very close attention to that valve seat, which probably needs replacing.

i ment hp gain numbers but you answered other questions i had. I keep fighting myself with this project. I am suposed to be making this a nice reliable DD but its hard not to build the motor with performance parts to squeeze a couple extra hp out. I think im just going to have the stock head and block build to factory spec and just leave it alone. Its so hard to do though. I also live in stolen hondaville so thats also a reason i want to keep it stock.
check the cylinder that had the burnt valve clean all the pistons, take the head to the machine shop fix that valve and seat and check the rest and put it back together and there u go a reliable dd
i did that swap a 16 bottom with a gsr head.... slow as all living fuck. my b16 was faster. it was not as reliable to me since it spun two rod bearings very fast.. but then again the block was more than likely fucked already. THANKS TAT MONSTER. but seriously my boy did the same swap and he said his was slow too
