D16Y8 Swap into 91 Hatch
D16Y8 Swap into 91 Hatch
Hey, I'm swapping a D16Y8 w/ a manual trans into my 91 hatch which had a D15B2 w/ an automatic trans.
I am curious which mounts I need, what wiring harness, and what ecu I need. And will the dizzy line up with the harness? Also, I got trans seperate and I bought a clutch and flywheel, what else goes in with that?
I need a lot of help, so please give me some ideas.
Thanks a bunch,
Lee

well the engine harness is going to be ur stock harness. your going to have to convert to mpfi and obd2.
the ecu is going to be a y8 manual ecu. idk the code for it. engine mounts u should be able to use stock moutns since its still a D. dizzy will not line up untill u convert the plugs and obd.

OP this information does not make things easy for you at all. First off is you civic that you currently have DPFI or MPFI (2 or 4 injectors)? If you only have 2 injectore you can use the engine harness that you currently have and modify it to make it work on the other engine.
Example: http://www.angelfire.com/d20/hcivic88/dx-siwiring.html
You do not have to conver to OBD2 at all. If you converted your car to any OBD I would convert it to OBD1 (tuning options). Ecu if converted to OBD1 use a P28 or any OBD1 ecu and have it chipped.
Mounts: I am not sure since the car you have it an auto. I would think that most of the mounts would be the same, but since you are converting to manual you top trans mount might be different.
Distributor: you can use the OBD0 D-series unit and it will bolt in an work.
The Si Harness just doesn't "plug up"
you have to hack the perfectly good Si harness up and convert it to MPFI from DPFI.
OP, this is a lot more work involved than you may think...
I've done plenty of these swaps and conversions, it can be a headache your first couple times in.
