Can you check the build date to see if it's pre-8/98 despite having steptronic? IIRC BMW put it on the hoodpad on these cars. Did this really go for as low as 6750? Granted I have no idea what they're worth, but based on driving my brother's I have to say that these e39s are becoming the biggest steal in used cars. I know his relatively low-optioned 1998 540i was $55,000 sticker when new ($72k in today's dollars), and they drive every bit of that

Can I asked who did your cats? My brother's 540 needs them done too.

yeah its an 8/98 model on door sil...have not checked under hood.

pm me if you got any more questions. i am loving the car, sadly it has its share of problems. Seller is a great guy worked with me through a few hickups.

Ah hah, so what you have is technically a 99 model year then.

What sort of problems? I've fixed a few things here and there on my brother's but not a whole lot (including a shimmy that was a simple and obvious fix....that two dealerships and 1 independent couldn't find).
