Yep, any queen size will work. The actual heater and water'bag', or whatever the hell they're called, are separate.
This is correct. Take out the bladder, heater, and liner if it's nasty. Drop in a queen size mattress only, no boxspring. There will be a few inches or so extra space from head to foot though, because a queen waterbed is 60x84, and a standard queen matt will be 60x80. Usually not a big deal though. If it bothers you, move it to the head and stuff the foot with a blanket/pillows/whatever.
