So how much are you looking at paying for a kart to get started?

ive found several nice chassis for around 500 and less ive found a few race ready for under 2k all these are late model karts in great condition then u figure on between 75-100 a race between tires and entry fees cosmo or sum of the others could probally give you a better idea on it from what ive read and been told the inital cost (KART AND GEAR) is biggest cost after that it is fairly affordable

Well, a good set of tires will last you most of the season if you are on dirt. I haven't raced on asphalt for a while so I don't remember much about it.

And, honestly, I'm sort of out of touch with the 4 stroke world so I'm not sure what a motor runs these days or how often you have to rebuild them. Back when I was running 4 stroke and we were running the flat top motors, we rebuilt them every 6 races. I believe the Animals can go a lot longer between rebuilds. The 4cycle.com site someone posted earlier is a good one. A lot of good information there.

But really, provided you don't wreck and tear your kart up, you don't have a lot of expenses from race to race. Fuel and oil are the main ones. Some tracks make you buy fuel from them, and some you have to provide it yourself. But, again, running 2 cycle we always supply and mix our own fuel.

So once you get your kart, motor, clutch, and a couple sets of tires, you really don't have a lot of expense.

What I would suggest to anyone that wants to get started is just to go to a couple races, look around, talk to the guys, and find out what works there. If you are just getting started chances are the majority of your races will be at only one track, so once you get set up for that track, you should be good. By the time you get to where you are racing in a series and going to different tracks, you'll probably know what you need to know to set up for different tracks.

 

i ran dirt oval for a few years, its getting expensive to do. if you are interested in it, i can set you up with a cart shop.

i use to love to run margrerttsville before they shortened it up. i ran capitol city, dixiland, amelia, baker florida, greenville, 5 county stadium, and i think brinkleyville. its a stock car track that they let us run on.

 

Well Cosmo i really dont know where you have been racing at on Dirt but i surly cant make 1 season on 1 set of tires or even close to 1 season haha. And i dont know many people who have tires that last that long. Usually your looking at 6 races per right side tire(s). If your looking to run the State Series or Nationals your are looking at 3 Brand new sets everytime you go. Very expensive....

Anyway Yes there is plenty of karts out there and i really hope that the website i gave helped you out. If your looking for a user friendly chassis try to get on a Phantom Phenom(1 of the most user friendly karts on the market and very nuetral) just make sure it does not have alot of races on it because there was a bad batch of these that just gave out and were slow or you can looking into a Millenium Tempest V2(Very easy to predict and is a loose kart out of the box) This is what i myself ride, but again it is your choice. If you need motors or anything to help you i can set you up with a man who does a Very impressive job or cheaper than youll get anywhere else, or just ask and im more than welcome to help! Always trying to help out sport in anyway possible

Also i do suggest in used geasr as far as neckbrace, and jacket go just because that stuff never wears out. It will help cost and ive even got some stuff got alot of xtra gear laying around if you do decide to get into the sport i could hang over.

 

i guess you are not running the cut tires? cut tires dont seem to last worth a damn. 2 nights if your lucky.

 

Well not for local stuff i dont but the Race i just got done with took 3 sets of brand new Cut Maxxis for 4 classes and still have some rubber on them haha. I got lucky i guess lol All depends on your budget and i dont have much of 1 so doing what i can

 

Depends on the tires and the track I guess. Down at Riverside, we run a little harder tire. The track is so banked that traction in the turns isn't a problem. We've been running either Maxxis or Burris tires and usually get a season out of them. We don't cut them, and we only use traction compound when it's cold.

But, then again, most of the 4 cycles you can hold wide open around the whole track, so traction in a corner is more of an issue for them. We have to let off about 2/3 of the way down the straight or we won't make it through the turns. So there is probably less tire wear for us.
