They're the "hang on" rings on the Japanese subway. People steal them and put them on their cars, both inside and on the tow hook. Originally it was a "I'm a rebel and I stole this" sort of thing, but now you can buy reproduction versions everywhere, which IMO sort of nullifies the coolness.
