Soooo, rode all wkd, and yesterday we stopped off at a local swimming hole where we had to park in a small gravel lot in the woods. Anyway, I pulled up behind my buddys truck waiting on my other friend to get his bike out of the spot so we could leave. I swear he saw me pull up and park there, but his reverse lights came on and he backed right up into me as I was sitting on the bike. Now my brand new bike has officially been dropped in the gravel. Fuck. Just got the fender eliminator and flush mount signals on it too.

Sorry took so long to get back, the 999 is my first duke too but I can tell you the L-twin motor is a SHIT ton better than any inline Jap bike I've ever ridden. Yeah the dry clutch clackalackin is kind of annoying, but I think its a "cute" personal quirk of the bike. As far as maintenance goes, like hell will I ever take it to a dealer, I just did the 6k on mine and realized it took me less than an our to take off and put on ALL the fairings on the bike and do the oil change/oil filter/spark plugs. If I hadn't have run into a short, that is ha. (due to previous owners retarded FE kit that he spliced himself)

The sound of these bikes > (to me) than any high revving import jap bike I've ever heard.
Details/lines/looks/design > (to me again) than other bikes

Parts are expensive/ hard to come by sometimes because they are so "rare" but if you look you can find deals on the parts you need.

Talk to rollinstock on here, he works at Redline in Yorktown, sure he can hook you up with anything you need.

Lastly, don't know if its any issue with the 1098's, but the Dukes I've known have always had starting issues (ie. take a little longer seconds wise to turn over which is likely wiring guage quality more than anything), but the 1098's are supposed to be the good ones where they fixed everything and maintenance wise yours is supposed to go an extra 1500 miles between intervals.

GOOD LUCK with that deal, and I seriously would love to see that bike one day.

Cheers

Hi,

Ducati 1098's does and do turn over quite slow as if the battery is dying but that is normal. What I do with mine is I have a trickle plugged connected to the battery when I am not riding her. Early 1098's did come with a few recalls so make sure you get intouch with your Ducati dealer to get that sorted out. If you are doing your own oil change I suggest you purchase a K&N oil filter because there's not enough room to grip the filter. With the K&N it would have a spot to fit a socket into. I highly suggest that you purchase a VDST tool to reset your service light yourself and later in the future if you decided to upgrade your exhaust you can reset your TPS yourself. So far my 1098 has treated me well, made me smile everytime I hear such great musical notes coming from the L.

Ride safe!!!
