Dook status
It's marketed as some revolutionary economy car when all it has is 2 seats, a tiny body, and shitty little 1 liter engine, but it does 36 combined mpg. That's only 1 more than my car which has 3 more seats and a trunk you can put shit in. I just think cars like that are really just setting the whole industry back, it's not cheap, it's not that green, it's not fast (despite what blah thinks) it's just some car, there's not one thing about it that hasn't been done before and done better by something else.
I actually was interested to see if you might be on to something, to give me an idea I looked up power/weight of each: Smart Fortwo 70hp/1600lbs BMW 318ti 138hp/2590 I'm no mathematician but what I see is that my car has twice the power but not twice the weight. So no, I think I'd probably edge out a win in that match up.

It's like a slow expensive Civic.
Each of the Euro-spec Sports and Active versions we drove had the former, a pairing BMW claims should yield a 0-60-mph time of 9.6 seconds.

The guy I know who has one gets 45mpg. I'm also pretty sure youre 318 cost more than $12k when it was new. It's also easy to forget that, while the smart is new in the US, they came out in 1998.

LOL @ a guy with a BMW 318ti bashing pretty much anything.

The ti cost twice as much because you get twice as much space, twice as much power and basically the same fuel efficiency. I'm not saying I hate it, I just don't see the point in making a two-seater with no storage space just to gain an insignificant amount of fuel efficiency. Seems stupid to me, but apparently if I don't like it everyone else suddenly want to play devil's advocate.
How does it feel to get beat by high school girls driving stock Civics from stop light to stop light?
You know what's funny? It takes longer for your car to hit 60mph than it does for you to read this post.
I won't make any more completely valid points about the flaws of the precious Smart, which is now apparently the be all end all of the automotive world.
