The paint was shitty, I had a intermittent check engine lamp and the engine eventually spun a rod bearing. On the thirtieth day of it being out of service, I sent a demand letter to Subaru and they bought it back.
Overall, the car was terrible in stock form. It took over $10,000 in aftermarket parts to make the thing drive well and that didn't address any of the deficiencies with respect to the general feeling of bargain-basement cheapness inherent to the car.

iirc, early 08 sti's had some engine management problems and some production issues with the engine.
and in general, all subaru paint sucks.

Ok, i was thinking that i read somewhere that when the 08's first came out, even just putting on an intake cause the engine to lean out just enough for it to pop.
