Dope Status.
I'm getting my figures from having owned two of them and operating a business catering to the Lotus community. They're not track-ready out of the box and everything from the coilovers to the fuel tank needs to be replaced to make it reliable for the track adds up. Adding a turbocharger that's reliable for track duty requires a lot of work and isn't a bolt-on affair. There's also the 'Lotus Tax' for parts. The small stuff isn't cheap, either. A few thousand dollars here and there really adds up.
Thats pretty dope.
The owner bought that car Salvaged. Did alot of the work himself. And has said himself that he is in it for less than half of the cost of a 7-11. Oh, and he races ST1 in the same exact car that you see.
But hey, I guess you know more than he does about his car

If he bought it salvage, that's a different ball game. If he started with a $10,000 salvage car rather than a $30,000-$40,000 used car it makes sense to hack it to pieces.
Regarding Lotus prices, this was a $19,000 repair:

They are not inexpensive to own or operate.

I believe I saw that silver car (I'm assuming there aren't a lot of those around) in Richmond awhile ago, it was cruising around with an older porsche, looked and sounded awesome!

I agree with you on the sound. Every time I drive it, I think 'I can't believe they made a Ford V6 sound like this'.
No, the clamshell had hundreds of small cracks you could see by putting a light in the trunk and it needed to be replaced.
Do you think it's stupid that I let the other guy's insurance company pay for it? Should I have told them, 'No, it's cool. You don't have to spend that much on it. I'll get it fixed for a few hundred by slathering filler over it and blending it in. I'll save you guys a bunch of money'?
