Marcos Mantis XP is definitely dope, pretty innovative for when it came out. If I remember correctly, on all Marcos cars, the chassis's are made of plywood..

It's a cored composite made with a balsa core and spruce (or ash, I can't remember) skins, and it's a stressed monocoque chassis. So it's not too far off from the same type of construction used today, but with balsa core and spruce skins instead of foam/honeycomb core with carbon skins.

So while it's technically made of something that could be called plywood, it's really understating how sophisticated it actually is.


You make it sound like it's cut out of a flat sheet of low-grade roof sheathing or something like that.

Thank you for clearing that up, I probably should have explained that better. I do know the reason they went with a wood/composite material is because one of the co-founders of Marcos was familiar with using this material for building the all-wood/composite airframes for the British Mosquito fighter-bomber that was used in WW2..
