He boxed himself in (white truck slowed down with him keeping him in his lane) leaving him only the space between the white line and cement barrier as an out, but he ignored that out and decided to brake in the middle of the lane w/o checking his review mirror even after he said in the article "he'd passed the car earlier and saw its occupants dancing in their seats, acting like fools."

 

yea... riding centerlane prob isn't the best idea there.
you can't see around jeep in front of you and no escape route once you're forced to brake hard (because you were fixated on the jeep)

yea if i see idiots on the road... i just let them go ahead of me. perfect time to get gas or take a smoke break.


what's really interesting to me is that in situations like this, everyone expects the rider to be more aware and have all the answers and strategies (which he should) but less often people solely blame the retard in the car for being an asshat.
this creates a "well bikers know they're taking their lives in their own hands" mentality that becomes an excuse for these cagers to drive like total fuckwads.
why don't we have any sort of motorcycle awareness week/month? especially now that more people are getting bikes to deal with rising fuel costs!

Every now and then I'll catch someone who backs off to 5 seconds behind me and I was I could kiss him and hug em, but then you get the bitch on her cell with 3 kids in the back 2 seconds or less behind you.

 

In my honest opinion I believe that driving while operating a cell phone should be viewed as a criminal activity. It is down right reckless and endangers every person around the individual who is operating the cell phone. There is countless data that shows operating a cell phone while driving is as or more dangerous then drunk driving or while driving under the influence. There are also countless statistics that are very unbiased showing a dramatic increase in accidents during the introduction of the cell phone to current times. We have a very desensitized view and many don't see it as bad because the opinion is you are only dangerous if you drink and drive, or drive while under the influence of drugs. The notion is incredibly naive and and it goes along with people who are doing their make up in the car, shaving or any other numerous activities. When I see a parent using their phone and driving I get more frustrated because of their cargo. In my mind I am unable to bridge the gap between protecting your child, and driving while operating a cell phone.

I understand most people to find my view on this topic extreme but I don't apologize and I don't find it necessary to defend my thoughts. I further believe that car stereos should be banned as well as riding with music. Driving and riding are incredibly serious activities and one of the most dangerous decisions we make on a daily basis out of necessity. I do not understand why we don't treat it as such.

I agree with you on everything except driving music...if I'm driving the Forester (autotragic) I want something to keep me occupied so some good tracks help me stay focused on the task at hand.

Riding with music...I dunno my bike makes good enough music for me to listen to all day.

 

I understand that argument. In a car I believe that music is not very detrimental to the activity and can encourage a driver to be more aware or awake during the process. My dislike of it is individuals who constantly fiddle with their stereo. That is very dangerous, even more dangerous when idly flipping through a CD binder looking for the next CD to listen to or playing with their mp3 enabled headunit.

I believe manufactures have come along way in making this activity safer by putting controls on the steering wheel that drivers can identify and use easily because of their tactile response. I do believe though that when a car is in motion the ability to manually adjust the headunit and switch cd's should be disabled. I will never believe that what you are listening too is far more important then keeping the drivers eyes on the road.

Riding a motorcycle is a very visceral experience. It encompasses all of our senses and concentration. At least for me I do not ride and only focus half way. I believe that music is very dangerous because it cuts us off from the third most important sense while riding and that is hearing behind seeing and feeling. When music is blasting in the headphones and I speak from experience here a rider can not hear an ambulence, police cruiser or firetruck coming until they are very very close. You are unable to hear the cars around you, specifically if tires are screeching because those could be coming from behind. Engine noise is canceled out and the rider my miss a cue that they need to pull over right the fuck then before things go boom. You can't hear your chain starting to fail, but really you should be able to feel that. My biggest argument comes with tires though. In once instance while I was riding instead of my front tire blowing out, it began a quick leak. If I was riding with music I would have never noticed it until handling was severely degraded and the danger factor was sky high. On a bike I found that while the engine, pipes and wind noise might be loud you will still be able to hear the hiss.

Hmm that seems like the right year and is in country (yeah?) but 250 more than a greek place I found sells them for on ebay (greece > chinese products) for 500 unpainted, can't recall shipping and I think I can get the desmodicci style tail from them as well.

I'm curious what you guys think color wise what I should do with her, this is my plan...





Buy new unpainted fairings set, used tank off ebay for cheaps, and get familiar with spraying.
-black with metal flake for the frame
-white/turqiose --- white/mint ---- white/black/leguna seca blue ------ or some variation of the mint and turqoiuse

I want to take the original fairings and use them as well art to protect the originality.

 

Color? Hmmm...I like a creamy white.

Just remember time is money, and money is time. So if you spend a whole week having to fit those greek fairings you basically spent the extra 250 you could have for the other ones. Having pre drilled, fitted and cut out fairings is amazing instead of trying to fit a set on your own which you will fuck up your first time.

Go on the race forums WERA NESBA or AMA and ask people there what they like. They will point you in the best direction.
