I agree, I'm trying to get mine ready but not sure if it will be. Probably just ride with someone. But from looking at pics of rides before and talking with Charles who helps put it on, there are trails dedicated to smaller vehicles and I've def. seen Jeep less capable then yours. Just food for thought.
We're looking to do more of a scenic trail this weekend. I love being able to go just about anywhere I turn my steering wheel towards, but the best is when you end up somewhere with a view you can't find anywhere else.
It's definitely not out of the question. I might have an opportunity to ride passenger in a buggy... If that happens, I'm not opposed to coming up in mine and playing on some of the smaller trails and riding passenger in the buggy on the big boy trails. I just don't want to get carried away and end up busted.

Let me know what you are looking for in a Jeep (big, small, dd.....also what axles are under your Jeep if you know), price you are looking for an I'll provide my thoughts for ya as well as places to research if you wanted to.
Reason why I asked is because the Dana 44 rear was an option for your year TJ....it's stronger then a Dana 35 rear axle. Depending on how you wanna wheel, what tire size, axle combo etc....also you will want to determine your gear ratio which should be a tag on the front of the diff cover.
If your Jeep came factory with 3.73 gears I say run a 3in lift and 33's and call it good for DD and general trail use. 3.73's with a 5spd and 33's is manageable. When I got my Jeep it was on 2in lift with 33's and 3.73s and I could drive down the high way with no issues.
If your Jeep has 3.07 gearing then it will struggle more with 33's.
Also the higher you lift a Jeep the more out of wack your driveline will get, resulting in either running a trans drop of putting in a SYE kit....I'm running a trans drop right now which takes away clearance.. Not my ideal setup but I'm working towards it. I could go on an on about upgrades.....so let me know if you need help or what all you want to spend and get out of a Jeep.

also a what is ideal gearing for tire size....I'm currently on 3.73s running 36in tires, however I've lost 5th gear on up hill climbs so I am regearing to 4.88's, I have them in the box just need to put them in.

What Jeep do you have? What year? What trim level? Post a picture from the rear where we can see the rear diff and we can tell you what you've got. 2-3" is generally good enough to stuff some larger tires underneath and overcome a lot of obstacles that you couldn't necessarily do in stock form. Low center of gravity rigs are very popular these days and you could actually run 35's with very little lift if you're willing to ditch the stock fenders and run tube fenders/flat flares.
Come on down anytime! Pott's is probably the most ideal to be worth you driving down here... Other trails are more for scenery and more stock friendly. Burke's Garden is closer to Tazewell or Narrows. Haven't been there yet, but it's 50 miles worth of trail apparently. Really excited about that one! We're going to pack some coolers and roll out early I hope. Lots to see and do.
A lot of the trails out my way are (or can be) stock friendly. It's more an exercise of patience and smart lines than being big or modded for that matter.
