Default starter questions!! auto vs manual

Is there really a difference between a b series auto and manual starter? For some reason the auto starter is about $30 cheaper. Anyone tried swapping them before?

thanks for all the replies. A auto starter will not work. The input shaft is too long.

Have you heard of Google? It's an internet search engine that answers just about anything; no matter how stupid or blatantly obvious.

If you ever have any other questions between two parts..look at part numbers. If they're the same they'll have the same part number.

That's good info but what I have seen over the past few years as a heavy equipment mechanic is simple things will change the part number. example, some CAT starters will have different part number's because one is intended for the left side of a engine and the other is intended for the right side. What the parts supplier wont tell you is the head of the starter turns 180 degrees with three screws making them interchangeable.
