Finally had time to clean up the X over the weekend. I had almost forgotten my wheels were gunmetal instead of flat black! Also I have to show off my recent find from cleaning out the storage area from my recently sold employer. I called dibs as soon as I saw it, haha! Silly I know. It's a hood from a Ken Schrader driven race car autographed by Schrader, 2 of the Woods brothers, and the crew chief.

Here's my progress after basically about ten hours of hand sanding down the ugly duckling in my winter set. It used to look like this:



The barrels are still pretty black (some of it is the shadow though), and the goal is to get it all that dull, grey color. Because it's a winter set, I plan on just spray painting them (or having someone else do it). I'm thinking about Montana Divinity White.

 

why no tal-strip?

 

Because I didn't know what that was until I just googled it. Also all that sanding reminded me of pinewood derby cars when I was a boy scout. Perhaps I will invest in that instead of allowing my arms to drop off from exhaustion. (giggity)
