4x4 Off Topic Thread
So any of you guys have a front axle setup for a 86 Ford f150??? I don't care if it's TTB or whatever. The truck is 2wd an not used very much however, we take it down to the river and wouldn't mind driving it in the snow to get around so 4wd would work better. It's a family passed down truck so we won't ever get rid of it so I'm not in a huge hurry to convert it over.....just seeing what you guys have
DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
its even getting new glow plugs and a controller soon. cold mornings are a bitch right now if it wasnt for the heater. extension cord ran across the yard to the street and i hang the plug in the tree when i leave in the morning haha
if bucket o rust had a replacement his would work. ttb d44s are common at pick-n-pull over here.

I am not to informed on diesels, so it would definitely be a learning experience. Bad thing is, the only time I would really be using it would be in the winter to go hunting.
What kind of gas mileage do you get in it?
Also, if you want to PM me your Phone #, I have questions about the truck.

Yeah I'm assuming a ttb dana 44 is cheap.....not the ideal setup but this truck isn't going to be so high in the air I have to jump in.....just a good work truck to do odds an ends as we need it to
If the price is right,

the ttb will ride better. be plenty good for your uses. im gonna be removing my d35 ttb setup soon, to bad that wasnt what you needed
Your truck sits a little to high for me though...I've got my Jeep to sit high if I want to for 4wheeling. I'd like a decent fuel mileage truck to haul stuff.
yea idi. idi is a very strong engine. just not a powerhouse like the new ones. they have a 6.9 and 7.3 idi international/navistar engine. 7.3 is better but due to the larger size came thinner cylinders so you have to keep up on the correct level of SCA in your antifreeze to prefent rusting through from the leftover sand from block casting. ive checked mine and its fine.
a good mod to do is a coolant filter mounted next to the fuel filter(easy to get to and high placement means you can replace filter without draining coolant). removes all the extra sand/dirt/rust. i was looking into it at first but never did it.
good thing about it sitting high. i can load pallets on my truck at work. pull up to the dock and its the perfect height. never loaded a pallet, but ive dollied stuff right off the dock into my truck haha
