I bet this was it. He saw the cop car, panicked, and let off the throttle. That shifted the bike's mass forward and over-weighted the front tire that was already on its edge. Done-ski.

Yeah, that sprocket is silly. But it and the engine came from a silly bike.

Agreed. They sit in kind of mean spots... causing wrecks.

But hey, they will just argue they are trying to catch speeders and keep everyone safe.

Yeah... no. there's a lot of problems with telling someone to "run it hard" our definitions differ greatly.
depending on the year/type of bike I'll break it in differently.

1) Generally for the first 600 miles I never redline an air cooled motor. In fact I don't usually go within 1000 or so rpms.
I tend to stay away from the redline on a liquid cooled motor too but I'm not as careful about it because...
2) I vary riding conditions often. I never take it for a run of less than 20 miles at a time, and I try to go up and down through most of the rpms in each gear as often as possible (lots of gradual engine braking). That's pretty much all there is to it. "Running the shit out of it" from the get-go can seriously damage and warp 3 piece oil rings.

That's how I do it as well.

Somewhere on that dude's site he says to do basically that as well.
