Cycle whore thread

Are you in NY? I cannot remember, or if it was someone else.
Anyways, I was lurking on some forum that had a huge NY section and all those guys brag about being able to legally ride dirtbikes (that they set up supermoto style) on the street without anything but a ATV registration. No tags or any of that BS just a ATV registration.
Kinda cool. I like loopholes like that. LEO's don't tho LOL
Yea I'm in NY and yea you see tons of dirtbikes on the street both in NYC and where I live(an hour North) of the city
I've narrowed my choices down to:
1)Honda Shadow
2)Honda Nighthawk
3)Yamaha XS
basically an 80s japanese bike. 500/600

Idk..I'm taking suggestions..it's my first bike and I literally know 0 about motorcycles
I know I don't want a "sport" bike. I've always been a fan of the "old school" bikes

I've decided that I'll take/pass my permit test in January and take my MSC course in early spring because I can't find any offered in up coming months. I can comfortably put aside $300 a week so by then I should be able to start with a nice $2k-$3k bike instead of a haggard $1k-$2k bike.
So until then I will formalize myself with the mechanical workings and terminology.
