How is Amsoil too expensive?
5W-30 is $6.10/qt at FULL retail right here

Use any filter you like.

Sounds like your Amsoil experience was affected by a crappy dealer.

excuse me, we were sold the "signature series" along with the Zrod. That and most off the shelf oil filters arent rated for the 15k that the specific amsoil oil is. Yes they sell they sell " extended" "premium" oil filters. In all honesty, changing oil every 3 months really isnt a hassle, and spending the extra money to go 15K isnt really needed. Plus, changing oil gives you a chance to inspect the undercarriage of the car.

Correct, but you can use any filter and change it halfway through if you'd like, or just buy the Amsoil filter and let it do it's job. It's your choice.

To some it is, especially when you're at the mercy of others

Depends on the cost per mile really. Quality and performance aside most people save per mile with 15k or yearly changes.

So does inspecting the car without changing the oil...

It seems like whatever dealer set your shop up didn't really provide product training. A $99 oil change is the same price as three $33 changes but takes one third the time.

If you think about it, after the filter has reached it's capacity for trapping particles, it will start to contaminate the vital components its designed to protect. So, changing filters isnt that big of a help.

To some it is, especially when you're at the mercy of others

To any car enthusiast, 30 minutes every 3 months really shouldnt be that big of a deal. To the average commuter, yes, dropping a car off can be a inconvenience, which is why I see cars that regularly go 5-10k over the recommend service. You think "GREAT! THEY COULD BENEFIT FROM AMSOIL" All that means is they will now go another 5-10k over the Amsoil 15k service. Now trying to sell a $100 oil change due to convenience isnt easy, even if you highlight the benefits. ASK ME HOW I KNOW, I DO THIS FOR A LIVING

Depends on the cost per mile really. Quality and performance aside most people save per mile with 15k or yearly changes.

Read the bolded statements. Again, in that 15k miles, other components could go bad and cause wear. (fluids, brakes, suspension components, air/cabin air filters, belts, hoses)

So does inspecting the car without changing the oil...

Again, an ignorant statement, who drops their car off just to have a general check over with out any service? Let me reinforce this fact, Ive worked in general service, and in the performance industry. Ive seen everything. If your referring to the annual Virginia State Inspection, I invite you to come hang out at my shop and watch how many cars can go from barely passing state inspection the year before to being absolute deathtraps in a years time.

It seems like whatever dealer set your shop up didn't really provide product training. A $99 oil change is the same price as three $33 changes but takes one third the time.

Product training? I was well aware of the "benefits" of Amsoil before my boss purchased. Its oil, it all comes from the ground, is processed specifically for each manufacture, bottled and sold. Amsoil may have "more cleaning agents" and "protect better against engine wear" but isnt that what every other oil has?

Bro, keep on pushing your Amsoil. Any person on this forum can become a dealer. Its not hard. Ive met more amsoil dealers than I have for any other product. Let me know when you go direct with Precision turbo, Tial, Braille, Bell Intercoolers, ETC and have adequate product knowledge.

I don't have any dog in this fight I run royal purple myself. However I know exactly where you both are coming from. But grant has the kill shot with the $100 price tag. The average consumer I'd be willing to wager 80% or better probably goes over by 5-7k and still goes with the absolutely cheapest oil change possible. I cringe at the RP price tag every time I need to service my cars. If they were not boosted DDs bet I wouldn't run Walmart brand oil and filter in them with no fucks given. It's a hard sell especially with jiffy lube advertising $15 oil changes. We all know you get what you pay for but the soccer mom doesn't give shit all she sees is $100. Just my $0.02

I'm not saying it's cake getting people to divide cost by miles, but generally they come around if they're the type that care about their car.

Those that don't? Aren't my customer.

I spent $88 for a case of 12 of Motul 6100. Its not really that much money, and the car burns less oil using a good oil in it. Plus for a high strung 4cyl motor, I'd prefer to keep it as healthy as possible for as long as possible. I beat the crap out of my car in the summer, so I want to make sure I put an oil in it that isnt going to break down from hard wear.
