i do my own work unless its body work or custom fabrication that deals with welding....i tried doing body work and my car looks like shit now i will just save up money and send it to a pro.....and the welding speaks for itself in the meantime

 

I have the ability and know how to do just about any thing I wanted to do to my car, however where my limitations come into play is that being in the miltary means no garage and none of my tools that are all the way back up in Michigan. So, unfortunately, I end up having to pay to get the complex stuff done.

 

The only things we don't do at my house is machine work, alignments, & tire installs.
Here we were installing an LT1 into my friends car,

 

only thing i dont do is machine work, and tune my own car, i leave that up to shad, and of course what ws6 said, alignments and tire balances and shit that requires very expensive machines........everything else being done to my car or a car im working on is done in the garage.......same goes with the rest of tnn....

 

ive done everythin to my car except weld my exhaust..... so thats a big whopping intake and header

 

Well you have a (hobby shop)garage on base with hydraulic lifts and everything else you would ever need, I used the hell out of it while I was in and ended up with a hookup to use one not on NOB so I still use it, and they have all the tools I will need.

 

Thats true, and I use that quite a bit, but where I get nervous is tackling a jop like headers and having to worry about the reliablity of someone elses equipment while your on the clock. But, yes your right, for the little stuff, the hobby shop is great.

If I don't have the rool and its vechile spefic tool, I just make the right tool with my autocad and guy that I know that has CNC machine.

not true at all. The problem is most people have a perfectly level ground to work on. You can get all the tools and do it manually your self with some effort. Its not that hard.
