My New Time Attack Car Build Thread
Some updated pics of the engine:
I ordered all MAHLE bearings for the bottom end as well as rings.
It sucked on so many levels cleaning all the sludge out of the valley and heads.

are you sending it out for machining or just slapping it together. Im thinking about sending mine to abacus to get cleaned up, honed, and decked.
I don't know if i'm going to get the block decked or not. I can clean the old gasket off with no problem and have done so on a couple of engines without any problems. The trick is finding a compound that will only remove the gasket and not the aluminum. 3M makes some pads that do just that. Since I can't mic the deck height I don't want to have issues with piston to valve clearance if the deck is shaved too much. The heads are going to be resurfaced and hot tanked.
I'm also going to hone it myself. There is no scoring in the cylinder walls and the original honing marks are still visible. I bought stock rings so I'm just going to berry hone the walls and put it back together.

I dropped the block off today at VA Speed. I hope to have it back by the end of the weak along with a new set of heads. I'm going to hopefully have the engine in the car by the end of the weekend assuming the build goes as planned. I will take some pics. I bought some hot rod LS1 universal engine mounts so I will be fabricating some plates to mount them to the BMW cross member. Stay tuned.
