I don't know about MKIs, but yes, everything else up to the MKV handles like shit. (IRS equipped R32s not included)

Like I said, they might feel amazing, but it's only because you're going a lot slower than you think you are and you don't have a whole lot to compare them to.

That argument is really tired. "My wheels cost more than three of you motors, hahaha". It's really played out and.... untrue. Most of those wheels are bought very used and then simply refinished. I'm not saying they're cheap, but stop acting like they're something incredibly special. If it does make you feel better, I spent more money on my wheels than 3 of those cars cost.

On the power platform issue, again I beg to differ. VW engines can make a LOT of power, fairly easily. Ask me how I know. It's by choice that you silly "dubbers" choose to do this ugly wheel thing instead.

the absolute most horsepower ever produced out of a 1.8T motor is just now breaking into the 600's and its the full on drag car. and he has a TON of money invested. with a chip and full bolt ons you still only make like 220 hp, if you are lucky, big turbo setups only see about 350 - 400 depending on the build, i have also been in some VRT's again that i was just unimpressed by. i have riden in fast civics, fast 240's, and they have only a fraction of what it costs to big turbo a 1.8T. Then the problems . not for me, i'd rather keep my 1 of 7 sets of schmidt race 2k's in america! wich are now 50/50 polished cream

Out of all the tools on VaDrvn, I have a little more respect for your posts as I know you have some knowledge BUT I'mma have to go against you on this one. The rear axle on early VWs actually does act as a sway-bar. The axle has torsional flex and doesn't connect to the wheels directly but uses trailing arms. (didn't you own a VW once?) If you lift the car and let the suspension droop and jack up a wheel on 1 side, the other will lift as well but not in a linear fashion. The axle was designed to flex but still provide anti-sway properties. Aftermarket bars will stiffen this effect greatly (my mk3 has a hefty rear bar) but it is there regardless without the use of a bar at all.

And I will admit that I'm no pro-racer and don't have the behind-the-wheel expericence to say what handles great and what doesn't. I loved driving the Polo period. It was a blast to throw into corners. Other people that drove it were quite amazed at it's abilites as well. You might wanna know that it didn't have standard VW suspension, though. The Polo was an offspring of the Audi 50 which has nothing in common with typical VW suspension. (it did have a rear beam though).

I don't come on here to brag about VWs though. Nobody hear likes the look or style so I usually stick to VW forums. I come here to peep OTHER rides that I think look nice (240s, RXs, S2Ks, M3s, etc...) and would fit the bill of performance more than a VW would. There are enough cool rides in other categories to keep me interested in lookin here.

I enjoyed three wheeling... and I can venture to say I was still faster up and down the mountain than most cars that handle better on paper when I had my last GTI.

It's a different feeling driving a car like that hard as opposed to an S2000/Solstice/Sky or anything else that's firmly planted to the ground and handling like it's on rails... I think it's easier to push a car like that over the edge than it was my GTI.

You realize that 350-400 whp in a street Civic is quite a bit don't you? There aren't many 600hp Civics running around in street trim either. The reason you don't see a lot more from VWs is because there aren't lot of people doing it. A few years ago, 500hp out of a B series Honda motor was incredible. Now, it's fairly easy to do. The potential from VR6s is incredible. It's just that you all waste your time with silly wheels.

The only thing that really holds VWs back in the "fast" department is their weight. That's just one more example of why the cars suck as a whole though.

If I were to get a VW it would be a MKiv golf 1.8t and get a diverter valve to be a ricer and thats it. It is a waste of money to do anything else to it.

My A2 GLI handles great...

I'm not concerned about going fast though, I'd rather roll around with my semi-stretched tires, low as hell. It's my taste. I can say the a few of the VW examples are way too much, but there are a lot of nice one's out there!
A little in progress picture for the hate to continue!

And for good measure the wifes' Touareg on KW v3's (Flite can vouch for these)...this thing handles amazing for a heavy pig!
