you can get it by taking the written and getting your learners, and then riding and then passing the riding skills exam which usually consists of a u-turn, some cones you go in and out of, and you must start, get to 10mph, then stop in a box... you get like 3 chances to put your feet down or something, i thought it was really easy, if you've been riding more than a few weeks no reason you can't do it... BUT

i'd still suggest taking the motorcycle safety course whether you already have your license or not, it offers a insurance break that pays for the course itself in your first year and can add up to a bit of saved money over time, but doing that is the best way to get your license, you get a certificate which you then take to DMV after you complete your course and they give you a M-class license

The only thing i didnt like is that i took it in the middle of summer and it was hotter then hell out side and because i was outside most of the time i got a wicked sun burn on my face, but because i was wearing a helmet 80% of the time, i only got burned around me eyes.. i looked like a friggin raccon...

oh and another reason to go, we have a sign up promotion for the safety course at my work from time to time, and trust me when we get the sign up its basically a line out the door of FINE ASS women... i've never seen a sign up where 75% of the people weren't women, and more than half of them were all hotties

I took the class through Thomas Nelson CC... It was a fun class and the insurance company I have said they wouldn't even give me bike insurance without having the class.

i took mine at Thomas Nelson CC, it was a nice weekend a few years ago, had rain, snow, sun, tornado... just about every weather element you could think of in the 3 days period... friday we spent in class, saturday and sunday we spent most of the time in the parkin lot skidding and turning and stuff... i used to race dirt track and ride the trails alot with my dirt bike, so i thought i knew enough, you'd be surprised what a safety course could actually teach you that you thought you already knew... i was also asked to take an instructors course and come back n teach but I never had enough free time to get into the course.... but all in all, if you have the funds to go to a class, its not a waste of money at all, plus you get a decent discount on insurance with a safety course behind you.

I'm with the guys...take the class TNCC has...you'll meet a few people, learn a lot and get a break on your insurance. Sign up soon, if you haven't already...I called in Feb (2 years ago) and they were booked through end of April...but you can ask to be wait listed too. I did and got in 2 weeks later.

have fun and good luck!
