Get a lawyer, get letters of reference saying you're a good guy (teachers and other well respected professions are always good), TAKE A DRIVERS IMPROVEMENT CLASS, admit you were wrong.
At court: don't look at the judge much and hang your head low.

I was was worse off than you. Much worse. Do the above and you should be fine. Also, don't waste your money on getting your speedometer calibrated. You were way over. A few miles won't help you out much.

I quit speeding after mine. It sure isn't worth paying that money again and risking anyones life.

Good luck.

Do everything you can. Get your car calibrated, get a lawyer, cry like a little bitch, take a drivers improvement clinic, anything.

1: Get a Continuence
2: Get a Lawyer
3: Get car calibrated
4: Before going back to court take Driver Improvement
5: Pray before going into the court room
6: Admit wrong when you speak to the judge, when he ask if you have anything to say about what you did. Make sure you add in everything, what you learned, how much thought you put into what you did, you wish you never did it, it won't happen again, etc...

These are the 6 steps I took in 2004 when I got Reckless/Street Racing & 5 minutes later got another Reckelss 55-35 Residential , I got these 2 tickets in the same day !!! Keep that in mind, those were the steps I took and may it be I was lucky or whatever, had a bad judge, I don't know. I know you always go to court with a lawyer, it makes you look better, and 2 always take something to show you are trying to change habit of speeding I.E. Driver Improvement. 3 Always in court maintain eye contact with the judge especially when speaking to him, it shows respect and he can see for himself that your sincere about what your saying, plus it shows him you know you did wrong.

Good Luck in Court !

I went w/o a lawyer for my ticket, got a calibration... my speedo' was waaaay off. Got it reduced to defective equipment. $70 after fees, etc. Worth a try. Always helps when you're cooperative with officer at stop too.
Be careful when taking a driver improvement class, I imagine a judge could order another anyways b'c the one you took before court wasn't "court ordered", right?

See. No need for a lawyer. Save him for when you murder someone. If you dont plan on fighting it, which I suggest you dont since this is pretty minor, you dont need a lawyer.

good advice, if your car is automatic get it calibrated, if its stick I don't believe they will accept that excuse. Also ask for the calibration sheet showing that the radar gun was calibrated within 6 months (before or after) of your ticket. My reckless 84/60 got dropped since the cop didn't show up. Be sure to plead not guilty, even to argue the fact that you were speeding, but not at reckless speeds. Do take driver improvement classes, even if you weren't found guilty, it'll help you out in the future if you get any more tickets.

I just got done going through this. I got hit doing 97 in a 50 I got my speedo calibrated. Came to court with a lawyer and a calibration showing my speedo wasnt working at all I went up infront of the blonde female judge in Va beach. I got sentenced that day to 6 months all suspended but 8 days $650 fine and 4 days suspension on my license . I appealed it and then she set me a 2,000 secured bond. I bonded out. I went into Circuit court for the appeal a month later. they gave me 6 months in jail all suspended but 4 days. and a $471 fine and no suspension on my license . My advice to you is. Get a lawyer and if you dont get off the first time. APPEAL!!! Either way I did 4 days in Jail and got a reckless driving charge on my record. $471 fine and i cant screw up for 6 months or ill go back for the rest of the 6 months.
