I NEED OPINIONS ON OPENING A NEW BIKE SHOP:
look into a building that has a big parking lot that you could throw events like the bike fest..of course u wont get as big without paying an ass load, but find something with a decent size lot you can stunt around in and have gatherings on the weekends and stuff.

Sounds awsome to me, and if the shop is really popular i'm sure people from richmond and even nova will come down to get their stuff, and definantly for events.
Events are EXPENSIVE if you want to do it right. Liability.
One thing that no shop around here that I've ever been to has is MUSIC! Have some freaking music blaring! Please. Not so loud that you can't hear yourself think, or speak to customers without shouting, but if it ends up being a big shop like a warehouse or an enormous store, play some loud music!
...or better yet, tv's sort of like blockbuster has but bigger... with stunt videos and music videos playing, loud. I would want to walk in and hear/feel the sound of an engine revving hard

there is a building up for rent on va beach blvd nest to a fram fresh. its been this way for a good while, VERY big store (used to be a department store). people used to meet up in the parking lot for a short while too... you can cut the store in half, have the business part in the front half, then your stock in the back half, cuz you wouldn't need that whole store, but it would be a great location, right off of a maint road, and there are a few places to eat in the same shopping center, not to mention its 1 of the 2 big buildings in that location (very easy to make it sand out).
only thing is would you get enough business to justify have such a large place
oh and its maybe 5 minutes from lynhaven interstate exit and 10 from rosemont

Well i read this forum alot cause im from va and will be back in va in 10 monthes. I bought my gsxr 600 from hilton head motorsports. And i go there to buy all my stuff their prices are competitive and they have alot of gear in stock. The best part is they are friendly. I wish they had tvs and stuff because when i get my bike worked on i wait and sometimes it can take a while. So personally i think thats a great idea. They sell bikes so that helps bring bussiness i know thats a whole different world but even selling used bikes or something would atleast bring people up there. I dont know just an idea.
seriously.... i need a job...
all these ideas so far are sounding pretty good. i agree about the location being a key part.
one more thing i'd like to see (if for nothing more than shits and giggles...and tire sales...
a burnout pit. like that place in myrtle, and suck-bang-blow in daytona. you know how many people want to burn thier tires off before they replace them?? you could shoot video of guys doing big smokey burnouts, the make copies on any dvd burner and sell em to them for a few bucks.
oh and uh... i need a job.

hell yeah a hai shop would be awesome around here i think u would steal alot of buisness from the shops around here...cycle gear is the only thing close...and dude a burnout pit would be sick i know i would go there for tires jus to get the chance to bust the old one, another thing that could make alot of money would be gettin a dyno, or a wheelie machine u would make mad loot of that stuff. and if u kept the shop open later then most shops during the weekdays prolly would bring in more buisness that way too.
Never been to HAI, but have always heard great things of them. They look out for their fellow riders from what I hear. It's a good idea, but it won't be cheap! Also figure on a lot of disposable funds for a while!
As for location...I still say the old HQ by the Town Center in VA Beach!! You could still have indoor stunting, while sales/ service are going on in the front! You might remember that we had talked about this a while back. You might want to talk to the guys at the indoor kart track in P-Town to see how they ventilated and make it legal!
The lounge woudn't be too bad an idea...cold drinks, TV's, seating, snackem foods like fries, nuggets, mozza sticks, etc...and of course a wheelie machine! I think I still have the e-mail on what I need to do to get one (out of my price range though).
I have thought about all that kind of stuff for a while, and thought the old HQ would be ideal for a bike shop/ stunt spot/ snack bar....I just don't have the capital to do it! And I am sure the HQ is expensive, since all that land is around there...but it's an idea.
You know I will help with what ever I can as well...only problem is my time is scarce...you should know that by how much I am out riding!!
