This is true. Tidewater Sports Car Club had received permission from the Suffolk airport management to use part of Suffolk airport for autocross events this year. Suffolk city council shot us down with the excuse that they didn't want to resurrect memories of the 'black eye' that the old drag strip from the 70's left there. Whatever...

 

this track will not be some multi million dollar track scca will not run on it nasa may hold drifting events i do not know. this track is not for them this track is for all of us. a place we can all go to practice drifting or have local autocross/timeattack competitions it will be built with locals in mind

I you took about 5 seconds and searched this site, you would have found that people want a facility like what yo speak of...... but the citys do not. You cant just buy a bunch of land and build a track. The city would have to authorize the land usage, along with a shit ton of EPA enviromental imact studies will have to be done, long before the first bit of track is laid. If you have access to any backing, financal or other wise, there is a track being built in New Kent County ( http://www.dragonsridge.com/Index.asp ) that from what I hear has hit a funding wall and could use a few million if you have it just laying around. And the fact that the Dragons Ridge project is having problems will not bode well of any other track. Also the fact that Dragons Ridge is in the process of being built, when completed it would have a huge impact on the possible profits of a third track in the state of VA. This would not help in the solisitation of financial backing.

So best of luck with your project but it will not happen in the Tidewater Area ever, and if Dragons Ridge finalizes its funding; anywhere else in VA for that matter. Its simple supply and demand.

As the prior poster stated, even the slightest bit of searching would have shown you that the idea of building of track has been tossed around on this site since the beginning, and much longer prior to that. And it's already been shown that more than enough people can front the money or resources, and that the problem stems from bureaucratic red tape.

You're nothing more than another loudmouth with pipedreams who refuses to do any research into the logistics it would take to do anything.

Here's a thought: forward this thread to Battleground Engineering. Show to them that their decision to "leave the financing" up to you is one of sheer brilliance.
