well... if he was 14, maybe he took his parents car when they werent home......
my dad doesnt particulary make a shit load of money, but he bought my car and its paid for. its not brand new or anything, but i dont pay shit on it. maybe gas occasionally, since i also have my moms exxon card. my mom didnt want him to buy it for me, but he loves me to death and knew itd make me super duper happy. another factor his.. his childhood was one of the most shittiest i have ever heard of. he tells me and my brother both that he wants us to have things he would have never been able to have when he was young. as soon as he got out of highschool, he went straight into the army. stayed in for about 22 or 23 years. retired as an officer, and got another job working for the govt.
my point is.. dont sit there and fuckin bash kids who parents bought them their cars. you have no idea of their parents history.. or maybe the kid just got a scholarship to a great school and dad's rewarding him. UNLESS theres a kid sitting there bragging 24/7 about that shit, then by all means, talk shit about him.

Any parent who buys a sub 18 year old an EVO and just hands them the keys with no strings attached is crazy. That doesn't mean your dad is crazy for buying you a car but he didn't buy you an evo. Setting kids up with stuff that is expensive + fast is a recipe for disaster.

Any parent that puts their child in a 13 second car stock before that kid has learned how to be responsible behind the wheel should be questioned. It's not my place to say weather or not parents should buy their kid's cars but the first car should NOT be something like the EVO.
just giving a child a car reguardless of the situation is not giving them a sense of worth... i thank my parents for making me pay for every aspect... its the real world... somebody isnt going to hand you a car when your out on your own. I go to school at catholic high, which is a high priced private school. the kids there are so unrealistic, they total their car, they get a brand fucking new one... its a trend with alot of parents. kids are bratts these days, and maybe i am bitter maybe not... i just think kids should have to work for what they get, to some extent even if its just paying for insurance...sorry im goin on and on
my parents bought my first car as part of a deal we had going. 3,000 for a 1988 pontiac grand am. i wrecked it twice being dumb, and another avoiding a car that ran a red light.
now imagine if that was an evo and not an easily repairable 88 grand am.

smartass.it just bothered me that the majority of people will bash someone or begin to judge them wrongly based on the fact that 'mommy and daddy' bought them their cars. i guess in all, it just depends on every single persons situations... which most of us have no idea what they may be. in the long run when its time to learn some real responsibility about car payments or what not, i hope that they are prepared. but if they arent, who cares. im very happy for those whose parents made them pay for their own cars and they are now prepared for the realworld.
It isn't so much about buying them the car, lots of parents buy or help kids get their first car. The big issue is that the EVO is a car that an inexperienced and irresponsible young driver can get into serious trouble in, not to mention hurting someone else. I'm guessing that the parents don't know what they bought their son. They probably wouldn't have bought him a nsx or a vette, but the EVO is kinda unsuspecting. Well let me tell you, it is very easy to get into trouble in that car. Sometimes I question if I am responsible enough to drive my EVO on the daily. At age 26 it tests my will power everytime I drive it. No ticketrs yet though.

Alot of parents do make their kids work for what they give them. You also have to understand that rich parents do expect alot from their children, too. How many of you are expected to make it into Harvard, Yale, MIT, Caltech, or Cornell? If you came from public school, probably only a few.
It's like I said... jealousy sucks. Accept that people are better off than you. Parents don't have to be hard asses to teach kids how to live. Accept the fact that your parents didn't want to waste thousands of dollars on your first car... and accept the fact that they justify it to you and themselves as teaching you a "life lesson." If you're never gonna be rich, it's probably a great lesson to learn.
But some people don't need to learn that lesson. So rich people can buy a lambo, wreck it, and buy another. They can buy their kids new evolutions every week if they wanted. They can live in huge houses with all the extras. That doesn't mean rich people don't live in reality... it's just a far different reality than a broke man's reality. And I can guarantee that their children will be prepared to take over and run their family's businesses and manage their lifestyles appropriately when the time comes.
And about the car... I have a wrx, and it's MUCH safer than my first (sub 200hp) maxima... even in it's current high 12sec state. I'd give my kids an evo or sti over any 2wd car any day.
