Since it was built, this car has been the sole property of Caroll Shelby himself. This was the only Shelby Mustang that Shelby still owned since it was new.

A five-year restoration project on this car was finished just four months before the Barrett-Jackson auction.

Sold for: $550,000

The first new Shelby GT500 KR has a black-on-black paint job and a "glass roof" option that will be available on no other GT500 KR. (Ford will begin offering the "glass roof" panoramic sunroof option on the Ford Mustang beginning in the spring.)

Proceeds from the sale of this car go to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. The Shelby GT500KR is powered by a 5.4-liter V8 capable of producing an estimated 540 horsepower.
