sorry man but dmv is not at fault. even if then didnt send you anything.... they dont have to sent you anything, its really for them so that you can renew through the mail, instead of coming into the store and making long lines.

and good luck with getting anything out of dmv, from past times of dealing with them i would say dont even try lol

"its really for them so that you can renew through the mail, instead of coming into the store and making long lines. "

ohhh!!! ^^ ok, that makes more sense now. Well, I know this is the US Justice System and the DMV we're talking about here so I know they could care less about U.S. citizens, all they want is a paycheck at the end of the day lol. As much as my mom has told me that "I would have made a great hippy if I had been born 30 years ago" lol, I'm not about to waste my time fighting this. I have plenty of money and will probably pre pay just to shut these A holes up. I know better next time and will be paying closer attention in the future.

As far as communication goes, I really hope the Court system can surprise me and gain my respect back if they truly show they are understanding about simple human errors, until then, I don't trust our court systems and find them quite crooked despite the fact that no one and nothing is perfect in this world. Unfortunately, I can't say a police officer or the justice system has ever been of positive service to me. It's a shame really! And sorry for being a jabber mouth, lol, this topic just really fires me up and it's hard for me to shut up about it.

But thanks "Power2Weight" for clearing that up! I appreciate it!

I for one am a full time college student with a 16 credit class course load this semester with "work" on top of that. Now, if the DMV failed to send me a notice.....do you REALLY think I'm going to remember that little detail about my car with my academics staring me straight in the face?

I didn't mean for that to soudn bitchy bro... I myself have "forgotten" to renew tags. It won't fly in court if you didn't recieve a renewal notice. The judge will most likely let it slide if you get it taken care of beforehand and just say it slipped your mind.

yea, the whole reason they give you the ticket is for you to fix the problem, same with the no inspection or expired...

you take the receipt and proof of new tags to court and you're clear

if you have a history of tickets or similar offenses probably wont fly but its worth a try, costs the same regardless just takes about 30mins-hour longer than straight up paying it if you lose...

Alright, quick update:

I contacted my mom back at home and sure enough in a huge pile of mail, she found a piece of mail from the DMV. So, they did send me a notice, it just got lost in a huge pile at my house. Simple as that.

Uhmm, I got my tags and registration renewed last night online and it was only like $100. I will probably call the pre pay number sometime tom. and get that taken care of cause unless the court wants to talk to all 6 of my professors and my boss about missing a day of classes and work,....well....yea, lol no way I can make that court date.

And no, I won't be contesting the idea that the officer gave me a ticket on private property because I appreciate the fact that he wasn't a jerk off to me unlike many other cops I've experienced in the past.

You don't need to go to court for an expired plate ticket, you can usually just pay it by mail or over the phone, just like a speeding ticket. It's usually a cheap ticket, so just pay it and be done with it. It's your fault, and if it gets sent to the wrong address then that's your fault too, because you should give the DMV your correct info. I just got the same ticket in Colorado in January (oops) and it was $35.. Renewed my plates, paid the ticket, done.

I've gotten 3 of them before on a previous vehicle. It's not DMV's job to remind you that your plates are expired. You can easily see it by the sticker that is not up to date on your liscense plate.

If you cant remember to do it now when you're in school, what are you going to be able to remember when you're out in the real world?

BTW, my ticket was IIRC $75 or so to pay.

haha sorry, I'm human. Nah your right, you'd think as many times as I clean my car every month you'd think I'd take time to notice the stickers on my plates but I don't. Guess I will now!
