The horsepower was originally claimed at 250 then apparently went down to 247 and now they are claiming 238. Mazda is still standing behind the performance numbers though (from R&T). I think with the right driver could get better times since Road and Track doesn't always have the fastest times for a car. I also heard that road and track had slight problems with the last port not opening when their Renesis engine was around the 6500-8000rpms range, which would be like running an Honda without the V-tec kicking in.

I have driven 2 different rx-8's and i can tell there is a difference between one with many miles on it from one with 20 miles on it. there dam fast but up top it just took to long to hit 120. it felt like (not saying its true) my teg had more high end power. I ned to see some dyno sheets on it. its nasty low end though.

doubt it
they own shares, but mazda still does their own thing as well as some platform sharing. The b-series trucks/rangers share platforms now and the protege/focus will share in their next generations. From what I know ford has nothing to do with Rx-8. Nor do they have anything to do with the miata or current itterations of the protege.

Saw one on the strip yesterday. It looks pretty good in person but still over done I think. I wouldn't drive one. I wanna race one bad!
