I'm at a loss then, most of the used cars I've owned came with a shake I had to diagnose and fix so I know all the things that can cause it.

Try rotating your tires and see if there is a difference in where the shake "feels" like its coming from. Also is there any noticeable noise? A damaged rim or unbalanced tire can cause it as well.

Your wheels probably need to be balanced if everything else is good.

How do you know they are balanced? How long ago where they done? Also, have any of the weights fallen off? This kind of stuff happens all the time and unless you get them checked every once in a while you can't be sure.

edit- I've also had cars blow shocks a few times and the most you get out of that is usually bouncy/rough ride and they are noisy.

There are numerous reasons wheels can go out of balance. I'd have that checked before you go spending money on shocks even if it is blown. I do this kind of stuff every day and you'd be shocked to know what little bit of weight can cause your steering wheel to go nuts.
