Uh yes you can, I am an inspector and there is nothing in the books about inspecting your own car. I keep hearing it but I havent seen it in the book yet.
If you want to get technical about the law yes anything you do is illegal, but will you ever get pulled over for it NO *IF YOU DO NOT DRIVE LIKE A FUCKING MORON* you will not get pulled over. I have driven my car with 2 1/2 and a sk2 muffler(among other things) for a year now and have not ONCE been pulled over for it. Now they have told me my exhaust is loud but they pull me over for other reasons, granted i have been told about it, but have not ever gotten a ticket for it. But will they ever pull you over and make you pop your hood they don't now but yeah I could see it happening in the far future. So is a cai illegal? Techinically yes(but it mostly deals with smog related items that are removed from the engine), but it will pass inspection so personally I say fuck it. If the cop is stupid enough to pull you over for having an intake, let him, thats hours of paperwork he has to fill out for something that is 9/10 going to get dismissed.
