Sorry to jack Dan's thread here but, Steve would you happen to have any free time to take a quick gander at my bike? I'm having what seems to be a mis-fire under light throttle. Dan and I cleaned the crap out of the carbs so I don't think it's related to that. I don't THINK it's a balance issue, but there's definitely a mis-fire somewhere.

just out of curiosity. Did you take the carbs apart and put them back together? If you did. Did you use a RTV to seal the carbs back up? That is a pretty common mistake for people to do that causes what seems like a misfire.

The fuel breaks down the RTV and it ends up clogging up the carbs in the bike. I did it on my first carbed bike when I was 17. When I took the carbs back apart thinking that I might have put in a jet wrong.

There was nothing but a orangish red sludge in the bowl of each of my carbs where the RTV melted and blocked up all the jets. Just thought that I would throw that out there.

no we didn't take them apart. What would make people think to use RTV sealant to seal carbs that should be sealed with o-rings? It sounds dumb to me too lol

a lot of people look at RTV as "instant o-ring/gasket/seal", when it's not.
