it wont be seconadary ignition then (ie plugs or wires) that will show under a load. the cutting out is a sign of either low fuel volume, or some issue that will cause the ECU to cut the ignition or fuel.

my advice is to have it checked by a competent tech with the right tools....but they are hard to find. (in your area, that is )

I was referring to his secondary runners in his intake manifold. My SHO and my Escort both had similar problems due to snapped cables and/or sender selonoids telling the secondary runner butterflies when to open. (Which they never did, so the engine stumbled and sputtered like shit due to the massive lack of oxygen)

the 3.0 (last i can recall) doesnt have that setup. the main ones that come to mind with that setup is alot of fords (which have issues with the plastic clips holding the rods to the arms breaking, due to excessive gum in the intake manifold) and the GM 4.3 Vortec in the S10s, it had a butterfly that changed the length of the runners at high RPMS.

the main problems the variable intakes have when the runners stick is some stumbling, but the oxygen amount is the same...

like i always tell people, there are so many variables, it is hard to make an accurate guess as to the problem without seeing everything that is going on.

which SHO engine did you have? escort was a Ztec i assume? i dont know history of your cars, but i figure you had a later model SHO(ie not the early yamaha pain in the ass, but the later pain in ass engine? and a ZX2 escort?

The 3.0 L and 3.2 L Yamaha SHO motors in the 2nd gen both had secondary intake runners.

and both of those engines can suck my ass....any fucking design where you have to pull the intake to change plugs is shitty....

they are a powerful engine, but if you have to do anything to them...it is a nice PITA.....

hell, i could say his cam sprocket slipped on the cam.... (sorry....had to say that about the SHO's....)

That cuts me deep, Shrek. Real deep.

I had a '91 Escort with a Mazda BP engine (vacuum operated - stuck shut due to selonoid failure of some sort) and a '99 SHO (the cable to open the secondaries snapped in half). Both engines had almost complete engine shut-downs when the point in the RPM's that the secondaries were supposed to open didn't, due to the fact that the ECU expected a HELL of a lot more air than it actually got.
