That works for maybe a week or so. Trust me, the temptation is just to great when you have all the power on tap.

if your dead set on getting an 05' all the bikes are the same performance-wise, just whatever you think looks the best or you feel the most comfortable on

but i'm with everyone else in get a used bike, even if its a 2004, atleast you won't take the depreciation hit on something you will likely drop, but that is just the lesser of two evils, i'd ideally recommend something mid 90's and smaller

Thanx for all the input. Still haven't decided tho. Maybe I'll go with like an 03 or 04 like some have suggested. I really am not feeling the older bike route. I guess we'll see though, I'll keep yah updated on what i get, thanx.

don't worry about power and don't be a spec sheet racer. 99% of riders will never be able to ride a 600ss to even 9/10ths of its potential so worrying about a bike making 1.5 hp more than another or weighing 4 lbs more than another won't matter. I'd heavily suggest going the used route because of the depreciation hit and the fact that if you drop it or get some scratches on it the value will automatically go down even further. Your $9k bike the next year with a few miles and some scratches will only be worth a little over $6k

lots of people say that and functionally riding a new 600 bike is easy and with a level head anyone can do it. Riding a 600 WELL is another story though and its the minority rather than the majority learns to quickly ride well on a 600

i still think it's all in the person

if you just want a bike to go fast, then you're going to hurt yourself more than likely, but if you want to learn to ride well and take your time doing so... i think it's completely possible

i dont and never have owned a bike, i may purchase one this spring but i do not want anything more than like a 600 series...my neighbor had a nice bike and one day in his driveway it just fell over...cost him a lot of money to replace the fairing and turn signals and such...i would buy something a little older for like 2-3K and a smaller bike would be more fun ne ways because you can take turns much easier...also the class @ TNCC is always booked up so sign up quick because you will be waiting for some time....and NOT taking the class would be idiotic, you would be putting yours and others lifes at risk, no matter how good you think u are or how fast of a learner..
btw i like the way the 2004 suzuki sv650 S looks... seems to be a decent bike, lightweight too, but katana's are inexpensive too.
just my .02
