I think the original idea was to have a spot where there can be some legalized street racing. Similar to days when people would meet at a spot, then drive out to another spot for a couple of runs, then come back and hang out.

There would be no need for prepping tracks, just have asphalt laid down like any street around town. Basically bring what your brought (no trailered cars, blah blah) and have fun. It would be an environment where folks could hang out without being hassled by cops or business owners, and you pay a few bucks to race the rival of choice for braggin rights, etc., while the crowd watches.

But... this idea would be nearly impossible. The local ordinances won't have it unless it is a safe environment for racing (inspections, security, medical, etc). This can only happen if you make it big like you mentioned above.

Asphalt alone is in the $x00,000 area. Either we do it all the way, or we arent wasting time.

"if them hatas spent half of their effort tryin to help....."

The only thing I'm saying is why go so far into the red trying to compete with stuff like VMP and attracting the big boys? Why not in the first year or so of existance have it something very simple and nice that will get locals coming? Then when you finally start to make money, then add things like gas pumps and framebuilt restrooms? Why go into one million in debt when you can get some sponsors and stuff and only go 500k in? It's easier to start making money when you don't owe the bank so much.

I'm not saying leave the shit half paved and stuff. I'm just saying leave out things that aren't needed in the beginning. Like restrooms, I'm sure it one hell of a lot easier to get some port-o-johns than to get the city to approve some huge bathroom facility. Instead of a huge building to take registration and have an office, rent one of those portable office trailers for a year. This keeps your overhead down and keeps down the amount of money owed in the first years of existance. Then in the chance it didn't succeed, you don't have these brand new buildings rotting and wasting space. At least the land you could probably sell. You have to keep it small and simple. Hell, I don't even think BeaverRun had bathrooms until like the second or third year.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is, you cant just start really small like that and expect to make alot of money in your first year. Without sanctioning, you really wont get any big name drawers. A single IHRA/NHRA event probably makes a quarter million dollars PROFIT for the drag strip every year. Even if there was no overhead, and you charged 20 bucks a person, you'd need to get in 12,500 people to make that much money. And thats in a perfect world with no bills, and even still you're doing that in a 6 months for what they do in a day.
