The green is the more affluent part of Newport News. Nice homes, good people, low crime. It’s where I live.
The red is certified combat zones.
The whole east end looks like Mogadishu. It’s a bunch of oddly dressed dark skinned people speaking an unintelligible language shooting each other over a cause nobody remembers. I don't recommend stopping for anything down here. You get a flat tire? Keep on rolling. It's like driving convoy, dont' stop for ANYTHING.
Everything else is passable as your average neighborhood with good people, and the occasional rabble wandering in from somewhere else.
