i can't wait to see what the uaw negotiates in 2007. the hourly employees whos plants have gone idle in the recent past have had it pretty easy thanks to the uaw contract from 1990.

its hard for me to believe that such a large company like Ford can not keep a plant like the one here in Norfolk open....it just goes to show you how well Ford runs their company. its stupid how they can give hundreds of junior executives six and seven figure salaries, but not keep one plant open. they really need to re-structure their upper management.

my stepfather works there. he lost his son last summer, and now he is going to be out of work.
i may be on the naive/biased side, but fuck ford. good thing i murdered the mustang.
i'm curious to a real reason, not speculation, as to why they chose the plant that makes the so-called "best selling trucks in america."

Why are all of these plants closing? Because the UAW is demanding outrageous wages for the job that these people are doing. There is no reason to be paid as much money as these people are getting paid for such an easy job.

2008. the people who have already had their plants go idle still get at least 90% of their wage plus full benefits untill i believe 2007. thats a pretty good deal.

Yeah, money for free. What a good idea. Its called welfare. I'm sure most of these people will go on unemployment on top of the settlement they will get.

So 2,400 people worked at the plant and the payroll was $160mil. That averages $66,666 per person that worked there. We're talking people that install armrests, clean tires, empty trash and they are making this much.

On top of outstanding discounts on Ford vehicles, free computers, discounts on some local utilities, great benefits. I'm sure there's more.

Once either GM or Ford go bankrupt, or ship all their operations overseas, maybe we will finally see fair compensation for remedial work and get cheaper vehicles.
