But thats with every chassis evolution. The added power/safety/luxury must also add weight. It might be overweight as compared to the previous generations but i don't think bmw will make it overweight in its own right. Obviously little things like cf roof, alum hood, etc means that bmw is concerned with the weight issue.

Also, if you look at the trends of previous M3's as compared to their 3series counterparts...they were only fractionally heavier. So if lets say the 335i is 3500~lbs...then i would venture a guess that a fully loaded M3 would be heavier than that but maybe 50~lbs heavier. If that.

Personally im very excited to see waht this new chassis/engine is capable of. Especially mated to the new smg 7spd. But i think the M3 would probably be now catagorized as a Grand Tourer rather than a sports car.

The M3 ceased to be a performance car after it came back out in the states in 1995.

There, I said it.

Its pretty bad when the GT's from those years were dynoing the same as the Cobra.

Its a nice car (the BMW) but I'd never pay that much for one.

First one to blow up. BMW is doing the right thing, though: new engine, electronics, and $3,000.
