No I didn't say your car was (TB setup), just clearing up the conversation. The link is to GM tuning, it just happens that their V8s are more commonly modded so I do more of them. Didn't read close enough to see what you starting with, figured it was the regular ole SS. Best of luck.
yep, and so does the GM race team using the grand prix GTP auto trany in their 1800hp 4cyl fwd drag cars. more and more teams are going to automatics these days for drag racing purposes. thats all im really going to be doing is straight line racing. i suck balls at autoX and all that other crap.
there really isnt much of a dif. i race a friend stock for stock, his cobalt was manual, mine automatic. he finished with a 16.714 and i finished the 1/4 with a 16.718. not that big of a differance

I like more than straight lines, and autos don't work very well for that. Having nothing but a brake pedal going into a corner is worthless. If all you want is a straight line car, more power to ya.
It's not an import thing, it's a driving control thing. You don't have any with an automatic. I wouldn't take any car with an auto tranny unless it was a drag car only, and I wouldn't drive it on the street.
I don't want an auto Mustang, Corvette, etc., any more than I do an STi or something like that. The amount of time spent at the track is so small for a street car that it just doesn't make sense to get an auto if you actually like to drive. Well, unless you sit in traffic all day, and then it would make sense, but then I'd rather just move somewhere else.
So no, personally I can't really ever justify getting an automatic performance car.

the only thing i can do with a manual id traffic drive. i can do any kind of racing with a manual. miss gears, grind gears, all kinda bad stuff. its easier for me to just drop my auto down in gears with the floor shifter for me.
i think the reason i did so well against the many cobalt was the fact that gm has the auto cobalts hitting just short of redline before they shift and the rpms never drop below 4200 after it shifts. not to mention that i have added in the B&M shiftplus that upped the line pressure for my shifts. once i put that in my car was chirping tires shifting into second gear with only an exhaust and intake as my only power adder mods.
i have a video on youtube of me chirping tires in my automatic. ill try to link it up

A proper stall can be locked down low, so it doesn't slip up top. Combine that with effortlessly being able to leave manual trannies in the short-time and it seems like a no brainer. No auto for the street, are you serious? from light to light you can smack the manuals around. Not only do they 60' better on the track, they do it on the street too. A good example is my buddy's B4C Z28; the car runs 11.1x's with a small shot, headers, lid, and stalled auto. It can leave on the street too. With it locked up, it can run from a roll like a manual. The same mods on a manual and 9 out 10 drivers won't get it out of low 12s. A stall multiplies tq, a clutch does not. The e-trannies are endlessly tuneable to taste as well.
Most street cars run on the street and the strip, I guess if you wanna try and do it all (autocross too) you can compromise in all areas and have some thing that kinda works, but most people aim for what they do most. You are right about autoX, not much good for that. Roll racing on the street is like drag racing, so more people relate to it. If you are racing through curves on the street you are foolish (not you Fabrik, I just mean people that would).
