This may not be your problem, so don't take this as an accusation, but way too many enlisted personnel live way beyond their means. For example, if you're an E4, you probably shouldn't go buy $35k sports car, but I see it happen all the time. Some even live on base, eat at the chow hall, and still have no money. Or even simple, common-sense things like waiting to have children if you are only an 18-yr-old E2. This is no way to live.
Our military is not underpaid by any stretch of the imagination, but fiscal responsibility is not taught to our young enlisted men and women.
It's definitely not just the enlisted that's guilty of this. If I had a nickel for every butter bar lieutenant I saw driving around in a new Corvette or M3, I'd be rich.
