a stock 600 can out run a 1000, its all about the rider if your talking in terms of curves... straight linke the 750 would have to be turbo or nitrous to even hang w/ a 1000 though... 750 would be a OK compromise, but still entirely too much bike for a beginner, you might not kill yourself, but you'll be too busy trying not to die to actually learn how to ride, the problem w/ starting out big is you will never get close to harnessing the bike's full potential and thus your skills will lack, you don't learn much by holding back all the time your riding b/c the bike is just too much for you... i think a 750 is an ideal all around bike, it was my 2nd bike and i loved it, but i know i would not have liked to have started on one

Trust me, the 750 is where you want to be.
what???

slow and 600cc ss bike shouldnt belong in the same sentence..

most 600 ss's run mid 10's, even as low as 10.3+

most liter bikes run in the high 9 sec range..

for the street, i think liter bikes are like driving a 1000+ hp car around.. you hardly ever get to use any of your gearing(note first gear is around 80+ mph atleast, the new r1 at 103 mph!), there is NO way your gonna ride it to its potential on the street(or the track for that matter, unless your very skilled)... i suggest starting with an f4i at the MOST lol.. but it can be done obviously, just have to have self control or luck out the ass... when your inexperienced and have an uncontrollable right hand, 140+ whp is no joke, and can get you into trouble FAST.

The bottom line is that you guys say a beginner bike, well no bike is gonna do 175mph when you jump on it, its up to you to be responsible not to go that fast!!!! I can get on a 250cc bike and go 55mph as well as getting on a 1300cc and do 55mph, the rider makes the choice weather the bike is too much or not, not the bike! Just for example between the GSXR 600, 750 and 1000, theyre the same bike but with different motors. If you can sit on and ride a 600, you can do the same with a 1000, the disapline is within the rider!!!!

I think what the guys are trying to say is that with the diff cc's f a bike you DO have that extra power. sure, its up to the rider to control his wrist, but chances are, if you do make a mistake and grab that throttle, youll be in bigger trouble faster with a 1000cc bike. also, as Del said, when you are learning, its easier on the lighter 600's cause not only do you havea chance to focus on improving your skills but you dont have to focus on being afraid of the power thats actually there. you can ride closer to your limits and learn gradually and then when you can master what the 600 has to give you, you move up. this is all assuming you dont mod the bike and keep it stock. sure, he could get a 750 or 1000 and technically do the same as he would on a 600, but it would and will be easier to learn to control this new element of motorsports on a smaller bike. you have to walk b4 u can run.

Anyone who says that they get "bored" with there 600 is full of shit, ive been riding for over 2 years and i would still buy a 600cc. riding is riding. it doesn’t matter how big your bike is unless your trying to go in a straight line. i just sold my 03' R6 and i LOVED that bike and I wouldn’t think twice about buying another one.

Personally I think you don’t want a 600 because you don’t want people to make jokes or just because saying that you have a 1000 sounds cooler.. but i say go ahead and get a 1000 as a first bike.. ill see you at your funeral. I would seriously think about taking at riding class. they will show you a movie that has some pretty grusom (sp?) wrecks on it, and its all people tring to "show off" or who simply werent able to ride there bike. its like the other Del said "you cant ride your bike when your afriad of it"
