then whats it for? honda says its for fuel economy. now how are you going to say that its not? the normal cam that you are driving around with all the time is fuel effeciant, thats where hondas great fuel economy comes from. the vtec cam that you are not driving around on all the time is not fuel effeciant. its for passing power and selling cars. thats why there are 2 cam profiles, fuel economy and power when you need it.

We already knew that. Some people are just in denial. Thanks anyways.

Then tell me how the EX has power if you need 2 cams to make Vtec work? or the EX Acord 2.2 Vtec? Fuel consumption is a biatch when you hit 5000 in the D16....The H22 is the worst...Holy shit Terry used to go through a tank of gas a day with his Lude.....On top of the fact that a B16 wouldnt be shit without Vtec (No offense to B16 owners) It would be like having a D16 thats how much power the B16 would lose....Havent you ever heard the phrase the torqeless wonder? If it has no torqe how does it make power? VTEC and to use VTEC it takes MORE GAS Becuase VTEC is only letting you rev Higher after say 7000 or so on a B16, its got to level out but its still using more fuel so VTEC is not for Fuel economy.......

But it beat you none the less......Wich proves my theory cause if you were wired you would have waxed his ass.......I only like Vtec because its comparrable to Nissans VTC Black top S14 and S15 as well as the R33-R34 with a longer duration in the skyline of coarse.......Never under estimate what electronics do for a car......The Spec-V would red-line at like 4000 Rpms if it wasnt for the CVTC......And we all know that it gets its torque from a short stroke but it gets its top end from Duration......(CVTC)

did he just compare a honda to a skyline, I think that calls for a ban from the forums lol.

And yes VTEC is just a timeing device, nothing special. It needs the little noost at high end to keep up??

vtec is a marketing gimmick for the most part. but it fucking sounds awesome, and if you can have aggressive cam profiles while still retaining a stock idle and good gas mileage then why the fuck not? in my opinion it's worth it. i've been driving around with a high-lift, high-duration cam in my car for about 6 months now and i'm really getting sick of the shitty gas mileage and having to put the defroster on every time i come to a stoplight to keep my teeth from rattling out of my head. but the extra pull at the top of the rev range is wonderful. i fucking WISH my car had vtec.

but i still see the point of this thread, it is alot of extra money, and perhaps a bit overrated. for turbo cars, i don't see why even bother with vtec.

i coulda sworn vtec was more aggresive cam lobes... a pin slides over to allow the more aggresive lobe to increase lift and duration.. what is all this talk about vtec being timing?

edit: hehe, and i'll run my vtec agains your ls motor, unless your spraying or have FI.. ;]
