Thats pretty extreme that you broke the 10bolt under daily driving conditions...my 10bolt started to go south after an extensive beating.
its an M6. ive read that the 12 bolt if raced regularly can get a lot of gear noise, and that the 9'' will hold up to plenty of power.
so im guessing the 9'' is the best option?

10 bolts are hand grenades, go 12 bolt or 9"

Been there done that with a 3 speed auto, 4.10's, and a 26" tire. It's not bad. You guys are sissies. Take what you feel comfortable with, go to the next gear up (numerically), and that's where you'll be happy. I've got 4.56's in my LX now

UPDATE:

today i took off the differential cover and insspected it.

first thing i noticed was a huge clump of metal shaving collecting on the magnet

rotated the gears some and we isolated the problem

a tooth on the spider gear snapped off when i took the turn, flung around and scratched the ring and pinion gears up to where they will make lots of noise if ran.

sooo

im gonna need a new posi unit.........any suggestions on a good one that will hold to some big power?

and i need a new set of ring and pinion: more than likely going with 4.10s or 3.73s

let me know some suggestions

anyone with a m6 fbody with 3.73s or 4.10s wanna let me get a feel for 'em

My buddy had a '98 SS that had 4.10s in it when he bought it. We never knew how fast it actually was until he got some nittos for it. After the tires were on there the car just straight up ripped. It was nasty as hell. I'm guessing the only reason the 10 bolt never broke was cause he had richmond gears (which looked a little beefier than stock) and an auburn posi which helped to absorb some of the shock of the 6 speed.

Yes the 9in would be your best choice for all the reasons stated above and more.

This is an idea too but I don't think that many people have them yet..

The posi's are the weak link in a 12 bolt. I have one with a spool. 6K launchs at the track on Mickey Thompson Dr's. I have some slight gear wine but you will have that with any after market gears. The Motive Gear 4.10's in my 10 bolt made noise too. Supposedly the detroit true-trac for the 12 bolt is stonger than the Eaton posi and will hold up to hard launches. Don't waste money trying to polish a turd with that 10 bolt. 9 inch is the way to go if you are going to make big power. The Dana 60 is still too new to pass judgement on so if blazing the trail is your thing, go for it.
