I have some emails I got from Corky Bell himself when I was sizing an intercooler thru his website one time He told me boosting my Probe with the 10:1 compression was a bad idea...hehe.
Maybe that's because he couldn't figure out how to safely boost an NSX with 10.2:1 stock compression. He produced a turbo kit for them that grenaded several motors because he was clueless about proper fuel management. His whole NSX turbo kit was half-assed, instructions were wrong, etc. He quickly got out of the NSX turbo market once his kits started blowing up, leaving everyone who had bought one high and dry. The only people with that kit that didn't blow up their motor are ones who saw what was happening to others and went with a different fuel management system right away. Several people have come along since then and made reliable turbo and supercharger kits for the car. IMO Corky is way over-rated and more than a little lacking in business ethics. His book knowledge may be good but his real-world performance was pretty underwhelming.
yeah..for street use, a well designed turbo setup is nice...minimal lag, and good driveability. however, there is still that little thing of lack of throttle response..which can be tuned for, if need be. but it still doesnt have the instant *snap* of a Roots blower...
I think a supercharger is more reliable. No oil plumbing required. No boost creep. The psi of a blower can only be controlled by a pulley. All motor is the most reliable form of power though.

not all blowers are self contained...no vortechs are, a handfull of ati's are, but all roots are
Vortech's are a centrifugal SC. Basically a belt driven turbo. If you look at the Vortech's there really is no full casing hence the "Belt Driven turbo" term. Looks almost exactly like a turbo. I say ATI or Vortech is the way to go as far as SCs go on Mustangs. That's just me though.
I personally sway more towards the turbo side because of the expandability of it. Allows for so much more.
