RX8 or SR20DET 240SX?
EVO? Its a good 4 cyl...but it isnt the most dominant car on the market...sorry...
I would love an S2000, but they are a good few grand more than an RX8, all in all...im looking to spend no more than 14-15k on a car, so maybe that will help with the advice. I have found a few RX8s with around 20-40K on them for that price, but S2000s are a good amount more. And about the CA18det, i had heard rumor that that was one of the crappier engines to swap in...not sure if that is true or not. I also love a turbo engine (like we all do) so there is definitely a plus to the SR20. I am pretty good with cars, so keeping it up and running wouldnt be too hard, but I am also still in college, so I only have so much time to put into it, and limited resources here at school (no garage, small driveway, not many tools), so if I would be spending a vast majority of my spare time under the hood...then an SR20 might now be a great idea for me now...

That's correct, however. It would fit ME better. Not everyone's priorities are the same. The RX-8 is SLOW, but it handles GOOD. with that said, its fast. To me at least, if you cant go fast around turns, then all the power is worthless. A car that handles good, beats a car that has a lot of power. Period....
It does suck that it gets like 18 mpg (hgwy) ...... I think

And yes an FD would be expensive as hell, unless you're a rotary nut or very comfortable with wrenching I'd stay away. An RX8 gives you good old naturally aspirated rotary engine reliability with all the cool things about owning a rotary like the sound, revving to 9k, popping flames, being able to stay at high RPMs easily, smooth linear acceleration etc. Remember that you can't shut if off when its cold too or it'll flood, and that it consumes oil to lubricate the seals so you'll have to keep checking on it. Make sure the previous owner knew enough about the car to give it the extra care, I know most 18 year olds/chicks that buy them these days don't...
Now even being the RX7 nut that I am, this is still an extremely hard decision for me. If you don't mind how many of these you see at meets or on the road then I would get an S2000. Only downside is that its smaller, but you can't go wrong with good gas mileage and Honda reliability.
And i agree that the S2000 isnt anything rare...and that it has very little room (exe. no back seat). That is one big plus to the RX, its got a decently sized back seat...and the suicide doors are a nice addition for anyone riding in the back. The oil problem isnt a big deal to me...i drive a P.O.S. 98 Eclipse RS at the moment...and that thing drinks enough oil to fund Castrol's entire year of spending...so I'm more than used to having to check oil levels and all that.
Rx-8's are SO SLOW. Atleast the automatic I drove. I have had 2 240's with sr20det I thought it was reliable for what it was I drove it all over the place.
But if you want a newer car go with a 350z or s2000.

I found that my 90 RX7 is much faster in every way than the fairly stock '98 240 I just sold, so make sure you get an SR20 swapped 240 if you want any sort power.
I still say a late 90's low mileage M3 would cover all the bases; looks, reliabilty, gas mileage, power, handling, parts really don't cost much more than Mazda parts
