If you're not used to Indian food, try the chicken tikka masala (ask for mild) with roti bread. Very basic and yummy. I've never gotten sick from Indian food, restaurant or homecooked.

yea so i talked to the girl yesterday and asked her where she would like to eat (great idea right) she suggested a hibachi because shes always wanted to try one, but as soon as i told her we would be sitting with other people her mind changed pretty quick. so i suggested thai or indian and she said both were fine but shes never had either and she enjoys spicy foods, so can i get the absolute best spot for these 2 types of food thats going to keep me in the $50-$75 area. it might just be me but i cant see myself spending $100 for food on a first date, cuz come on if it dosent work out with the girl....that coulda been a new kuhmo

Modern furniture, dim lighting, great music. It's very romantic and inviting not to mention extra clean. That's a must with any restaurant for me. The food is TDF and authentic, reminds me of Thai we had back in SD. You can pick your level of spice 1-5.
The servers are very attentive which helps with having a personalized experience and to top it off the food is reasonable priced. ~20 a person for appetizer and dinner

so speaking of international foods, is there any places to find chinese food in Norfolk? Not NY/American style chinese food. Google has failed me.

agreed.

Great Saigon has great pho though in the Janaf Shopping center behind Uptown Buffet and next to Wasabi.

I would not recommend this. If you eat at the Melting Pot, you're there for hours and if your date sucks, you're going to be stuck with her for what will seem like an eternity.

My favorite 'different' place is The Monastery in downtown Norfolk on Granby Street. They serve German/Austrian food and you haven't lived until you have one of thier handmade wiener shnitzels.

reviews for tida thai are kinda mixed

Tida Thai is the best traditional thai restaurant around! I can't find any better unless my mother made it herself!!
Reviewer: Robert Patterson from Norfolk

I have to agree with Brett S. I don't know if there was someone else in the kitchen the nights we went or what. The calamari was huge pieces in heavy batter, the pad thai tasted burned and my husband's beef and broccoli was bland. I think Rom Thai in Norfolk definitely has them beat by a longshot.
Reviewer: Sarah S. from Virginia beach

i know the guy who made that first comment and he said his friend owns it.

Thai is a great first date meal. Food will run you at most $15 a plate, plus drinks and appetizers. Siam on 21st is really good. In fact I took my wife there on our very first date.

When I first read that I thought it said first wife there for some reason. Haha

I was about to say that worked out great didn't it.

I guess my mind just thought no women would put up with you for long periods of time.
