It's all about price point. They have to compete with the Husky crap Lowe's sells and the cheap Harbor Freight type of stuff.

All said I love being able to go into HF or Northern Tool and buy a shoppnig cart full of stuff for $100

This is some funny shit.

You guys buy what you want. I do not need a NAME to make me feel good about what I use. I have been working on cars and in aviation longer than some of you have been alive and I can tell you that there is nothing wrong with Craftsman. Yes, most of the new stuff is made in China, I'll give you that. But so far I have yet to see any of my Craftsman tools...new or old, break due to cheap materials or construction. Yes, I do hate the new laser etching...but I'll get over it. I do have some Snap-on stuff but hate dealing with dealers/middle men who jack the prices through the roof.
I work at Abacus and my Craftsman tools work just as good as the guys with Snap-on or Mac. I see Snap-on shit break all the time, and as someone already mentioned...I rather get my FREE replacement the same day versus wait a week...or longer.

...and guess what? I do not owe a monthly mortgage payment to the Snap-on guy like ppl I know.

But to the OP...yes, I do think the gimmick tools from Craftsman are junk. Don't own then...won't buy them.

I have seriously fucked up my finger once, by a Craftsman socket cracking and slipping due it's thin and lesser quality.

Im bout the same as you, im a service advisor and bring the Strap-On man more money than the techs do. Ive always used Snap-On, but have a fare share of craftsman stuff. Ive broken more craftsman than anything else, but the warranties always there, so it no biggy.
